Very nice.  I like the panels (guess that's what they are called) with the lines running lengthwise.

A beautiful horn. What type of tool are you using to create the ribs on the flat panels? The ribs are just about perfect and for me that type of detail is extremely hard to do.. And last but not least is tat a double rib on the one panel and if so the type tools to create that.

all the rough shaping was done with a file. I use a file, then a scaper and a utility knife for the clean up. The lines were cut with a checkering tool (cutter #B1) from Brownells.  The small rings were radiused with the same cutter. You could make a special scraper to do the work, but scrapeing a straight line for me would be more difficult than using the checkering tool.  I did'nt photograph the base, it is flat pine grain painted to look like burled wood. This was a very nice horn to begin with, it has a nice twist and measures 15 finished inches and is 3 1/2 across the base.  I am thinking about the design of an apporiate ppouch to accompany it.   Thank You for the compliments

Great horn, very clean sharp lines and nice attention to detail. Polished and then aged a bit?

Buffalo horns of the later plains era were very simply shaped on the neck.  This was inspired by an original buffalo powder horn made from the now extinct "Eastern Buffalo" Eastern styled means the type of shaping done to the neck.

Buffalo horns are especially thick, and lend themselves to some pretty deep filing.  I like the way you have sectioned the horn with varying treatment to each section.  I have only worked on a couple of Bison horns, and I find them to be harder than cow horn.

Very nice horn.

I faux painted the base to resemble burl wood,  But havent gotten back to it as its for myself.  I had some deadlines to make on orders.  I will show it when it is done.

Joe,  That was strange indeed.  I have always seen boxes of buffalo horn at Monroe.  Priced anywhere from 5 to 15 dollars.

I was lookin for a finished horn Dave. I saw plenty of polished buf horns but nothing like bigbats.
Dont think I have the skill to do a horn myself. Now if I could just talk BB out of this one...... ::)

I should not have shown this one around. I now have 3 to build. If you are interested in one I will let you know how much they are ging to be when I finish the first of three. I didnt keep track of my time on the first as I was making it for myself.
