Jaeger sling swivels
« on: March 25, 2010, 10:05:00 AM »

Gentlemen - I've been practicing making sling swivels and I'm getting the procedure down fairly well. Does any one know where I can find some old tapered screws? Size 8 or 12 would work.

You may have to hand file the screws, like they did back in the good old days.

I have turned some on the lathe, by running the lathe backwards, cutting from head end towards tip of screw, slowly feeding in the cross slide to reduce the diameter at the tip. No two screws alike! ;D

thanks - the one on the right is an enlarged photo of an original. mine's the other one. The original loop is forged while mine is assembled in pieces.
