Great looking rifle. I think it is great as is, without matchbox.
But l like simple well made guns, Like this one.

Thanks for the comments. Interestingly I had a non-gun friend visit and showed him the rifle. When I showed him the patch box he said he'd leave it off. Guess that's what I'll do!

My bench is probably 4 to 5" deep in debris. I envy you folks that can run a tight ship.

If you like plain guns this is just the ticket for you.
North Carolina Deep River school after my old original relic. 42" .36 Colerain "B" weight barrel. Davis late English lock. I was gifted the walnut years ago. It supposedly it was a floor joist that came out of an old fallen down barn in Iowa. Who knows how old it is. It was all ready profiled with alot of drop when I got it, I figured I'd never be able to use it but the pattern fit! It has/had an area of sapwood in the toe and on the left side of the rear ram rod hole, it stained out fine and is good solid wood. It has lots of curl through out the upper forestock, and light curl for the balance if you hold it right in the sun. The gun weighs 7 3/4 lbs. Took me a week to build it at short daily hours. Haven't got to shoot it yet, been too cold and windy.

My shop looked like this for years MIke, I finally hit the disgust level and cleaned it up.

Now I take about 5 minutes when I finish working to put everything up and run the shop vac for a few minutes.

Its all in the booty guys.Look at that rifle its skinny the butt is thin and it has a nice curve to it.Like a model.Then you have those Big booty ones wide and flat.

Not lately. Have an electrical problem I have to sort out. Probably the starter relay.

Bought wood and barrel from a guy in pa. It is over 30 years old he told me. Barrel is a getz and let me tell ya it is a shooter with 30grains of fff. Lock is a davis.

Here’s an Eastern Ky squirrel rifle for ya. Built in the 70’s by A.B. Conley of Salyersville, Ky. Barrel is a .36 caliber, 13/16 x 42, made by Burgess Cassidy who got his start making barrels with Rex Maxey. The lock is a small Siler built by Herman Stone.

Heres one I wish I could keep 31" rice squirrel barrel in 32 cal. chambers lock and it comes in at 5.4 lbs
