Nice looking rifle. Not sure about what appears to be a buckhorn sight, though. Is it used as a peep sight?

I like that gun. Used to see everybody with a gun like that in the early 80's at Friendship. They have come back in popularity again and for good reason, they're good looking guns.

Daryl, be careful what you wish for! We have tooooo many "chicken of the trees" here. They did close to $1,000 in damage to our car wiring last year. Nasty little beasties. Yes, I like hunting them, but got started shooting them as a kid to clear the destructive varmints out of our property.

Come on down from BC and we'll work together on eradicating them. :-)

I used to shoot black and grey squirrels in Southern Ontario from age about 7 or 8 or so, onward - back yard as well as out on some farms. Ate lots of squirrels in those days. I suspect the local variety here might taste like a nice green spruce cone, or pile of needles. They are protected for the trappers, thus cannot shoot them - which is just as fine, they are inedible, I've heard.

Grandfather said he could shoot the head off a pheasant with (his grandfather's) this one. I've not shot it though -does it count?

My apologies Daryl. The buckhorn sight I've not used as a peep sight yet. Being a .32 caliber I don't shoot it much over 50 yards - but I would think it would act as a peep sight past that if I practiced with it.

Not a problem, Don - if the front sight was higher, the rear would word as a peep-sight. Taylor's .62 Hawken started with just such a sight, but he's gone back to conventional sights on it now, seems to me. This one, modeled after an original S.Hawken's rear sight.

These type rifles are the most interesting to me. I like the way they look. Difficult to choose between a .32, a .36 or .40.

Don- Taylor simply duplicated the original Hawken sight.

It did seem to make a decent, useable aperture sight.

I always keep a clean sack in my pocket and clean the squirrels as soon as I shoot them. Then when I'm done I only have to clean the rifle. I make a cut right across the middle of the back, get my fingers in and pull apart skinning both ends at once. With head shots it doesn't matter, but when I was a kid I had to use a .410. My grandmother loved squirrel brains so I had to skin them out with the heads on.
Those big red squirrels are too tough sometimes. I boiled one for two days once to get it 'annealed'.
