This is my Bucks County Schimmel. Allen Martin used a small Siler lock and a Getz 44" swamped barrel.

I'm too "electronically challenged" to figure out how to make photos and post 'em, but if you have a copy of the CLA's Summer 2013 Vol 4, #2 American Tradition Magazine, you can see mine at the top of page 46. Hershel House and Ric Lambert got together and "created" this one for me about 20 years ago, and it's an exact replica of an original from the Spartanburg (Cheraws) South Carolina area where my people settled in the early 1700's.

My kit. You can tell that Mark Wheland learned from Allen Martin, huh? Allen sent me to Mark to build this, using a .25 x 44" Rayl barrel and a Chambers small Siler with bronze plate. The stock is curly maple, but doesn't show in this pic. Mark talked me into the buttplate--he was right.

I like this one so much I'm getting up for a similar rifle but NC, .40 x 46" A-weight Rice in curly ash.

I am having a 40 caliber with a Rice 44 inch A weight swamped barrel made. It will have the Chambers Colonial VA lock on it with Davis double set triggers. It will have a maple stock with a dark finish. Watching my emails everyday waiting on the word its ready to ship to me.

That is one fine looking rodent rouster and that good looking butt plate no
doubt dampens the recoil of that 25 caliber load.

On the subject of rasps,a boneheads rasp can be made by using a piece
of threaded rod and if a die is ran over the existing threads to sharpen them,
a good short life tool can be made for little or no money.

Yeah, Bob, I'm considering cutting back from my 18 grain charge to reduce the bruising and get more than 380 shots from a can of 3f.

Old thread and times do change. My new squirrel rifle that was delivered in December is a .32 x 38" A weight swamped transition barrel from Rice. The lock is a Chambers late Ketland. Though it's a Tn style poorboy rifle I chose brass rather than iron just to be different.

Here is my .30cal x 3/4" x 42" North Carlina rifle built by Mike Miller. According to Mr. Ivey's book that style of PB was used in Randolph and Guilford counties. Fun gun for backyard shooting.
