Yeah, Goose; that little .36 is eye catching.  Ash stock, nicely carved, bronze lock plate; the caliber and barrel length are perfect for small game and varmints.  If you ever feel like Santa, well, I've been trying to be very good lately.

Here is mine, just finished it up. Forged trigger guard, 40 cal getz barrel. Made the trigger and rear sight. Poor boy barn style, because of no butt plate. Will get some better pictures later, cant wait to shoot it.. Dont think the front of the gun is as big as a quarter with wood and barrel....skinny..davis lock.

Here are a few more pictures of the 40cal getz barreled squirrel killing machine i finished. Not had it out yet but will soon. Just got the back sight made and sighted in. Shooting 35 grains of fff, 395 ball with pillow patch. What you guys usually shoot out of your 40 cals? Might be a little better pictures? Oyea gun weighs 6 pounds 9 ounces..

I shoot 50 gr of 3F goex and .018 patch and .395 roundball.  Seems to work pretty good for me.

This is my back up squirrel rifle..32 cal. T/C Cherokee
light,sturdy,no frills work horse.
I slimed the wood,added a horn cap,tang peep,brass rod,lowered the front sight.

I like the idea of using the Brass Rod in your Cherokee. Those are great little rifles, and the extra weight out front should help with "shootability". One of my Buddies down here has one he calls "Pop-Tart"..and uses it to just chew the 10 ring out of offhand targets at 25 yds.

Never able to find, much less snag a Cherokee before they were dropped.  Lovely little rifle.  And bowkill, my .40 likes a .390" ball, 40 grains of 3F and a .024" patch.  35 grains is very accurate in my .40 as well as is the 40 grain load.  However, going from 35grns to 40grns (just a 5 grain increase) gives an incredible 230fps velocity increase.

This is a typical target with my .40.  This one with 30 grains.  Pretty good but the best 100yd groups I seem to shoot is about 3.75".  Actually that's about the best I've ever been able to shoot with my .45 and .50.  So the problem is ME, not the rifles.  Still good enough for a squirrel's head as yours certainly is.

Just finished this one.  3/4" x 42" .36cal Green Mouintain.  Modified small Siler.  The sight is up the barrel where I can see it.  It was my winter time killer and will be for sale at the TN/Ky Rifle show in April to finance the next one.  I find that the more I fool with them the more I like the guard grip rail close to the wrist.  With 2wks. left in the squirrel season I would have to hustle with the sight-in to hunt with it.  If it warms up a bit, I could make it.

Just rust blued my go squirrel rifles bbl..kept it in the white from day one..
last week in the bright reflected snow sun it cost me a shot due to mega bbl. glare...
went for a gray flat color.More user friendly

Ted:  The parts are cast, but I cleaned them up with a little belt sander(sold as a knife sharpener).  Search for Work Sharp WSKTS.  Handy as a pocket on a shirt.  I cleaned up the parting lines, but left some rough spots.  If you don't look too close, it looks like hammer marks.

The wood was a piece William Young had from long ago that came from a tree somewhere not far from his place. Very hard maple. The blank had several checks in it that were removed in the trimming/shaping process, Just off the rear of the patch box (barely visible in the PB photo) the last bit of one of the checks is evident but it's very shallow and filled with sealer and finish. I couldn't take the wood down any more without altering things so I left it showing.

I haven't test fired the rifle yet but it's supposed to be a balmy 43° here Saturday so maybe I'll get a chance to try it then. The Bailes lock throws a nice shower of sparks so that's a good start.
