Hot diggity dog! It works!!!!!
« on: April 08, 2010, 09:32:14 PM »
I test fired my first gun yesterday ;D ;D ;D. Ten shots in a row and no clicks.
Shot on the indoor pistol range at my gun club.  Target distance 30 yards.
More fun than a barrel of monkeys. The guns not sighted in and the groupings were not much to brag about.  But, that the shooters fault and not the gun.

Loading the first ball. (50grains powder).

First shot.

Best regards

Fantastic!!   :) :) ;D What a bunch of smoke!!  :o  It had to really feel good after all you went thru to build these pistols!! I am so impressed with your discipline and boldness.   Not to mention the artistry of the work.

Great job and good shooting!  That wire inlay looks pretty sharp.  Wish I could do something like that.  That wheelie is making me drool all over my bibs.  Would you send me a photo or two of your wheelie, please?  Cheers, Bookie

Good looking, maybe if you shot it right handed the ball would move over to the 9 ring :)

PS: The wheelie looks interesting too. Did you do it also?TC

Rolf,

Congratulations!  It is a real thrill when you take the first shot with a gun you built yourself.  You reallyearned this one.  The pistol is a fine example of the gunmaking craft.

Congratulations!

Best Regards,

JMC

Well congrats to you, hope you have many more to come.  50 grs. powder sounds like quite a hand full in a pistol. Best regards-Flintlocks Forever          Gary

Thank you all for your kind comments.

Bookie, the wheelie is not mine. It's an old repo. one of the the guys at the the club owns. We think its Italian. He found it in a loft. He brought it along to try out , since I was going to try my pistol. To be honest, the wheelie was a disappointment. Only one out of 20 shots fired.

Woodstock; fun, of course not. Shooting is a dead serious sport. Just kidding ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. What was really fun was the bang and the smoke. There were some other guys at the range shooting modern 44.magnums. Their guns made loud sharp, short bangs. The flintlock sounded more like thunder and drowned out the noise they were making.

Best regards

That's so awesome!

Just FYI, I've chronographed a 50 grain charge in my Lyman Plains Pistol (.54 caliber w/ 8" bbl) at 1100 fps with SWISS FFFg.

A 225 slug going 1100 fps is not far behind those .44 Mags.

Does that restriction extend to black powder cartridge rifles such as Sharps, etc? Just curious .

Yep, as I understand it, too much smoke and fire for indoors...I guess... somebody musta had a fire once upon a time.......

some GA state rulles for outdoor BP shooting on state ranges:

Shooters must be at the firing line before capping or priming muzzle loading firearms.

All loading of muzzleloaders must be by single charge dispenser.

In the event of a hangfire, muzzle-loading firearms must be kept pointed downrange until the problem is corrected.

Containers of black powder or Pyrodex must remain closed except when needed for loading.

Muzzle-loading firearms must be loaded only with black powder or Pyrodex unless the muzzleloader is specifically designed for smokeless powder. Use of smokeless powder in a muzzleloader not specifically designed for use of smokeless powder may cause serious injury to the shooter, to bystanders and to the firearm.

congrats on your new build, and its flawless function!

(by the way, we never have fun at the range; this is very serious ... we wear a lot of paisley neckties when we shoot and we always keep a perfectly straight face)
