I call it my Southern Patriot Rifle. I just got this from a member this weekend. I don't know who built it but they did a nice job. It has a 42" Getz barrel in .40 cal, deluxe large Siler lock with all iron parts and a nicely figured stock. The pic does not even come close to showing how nice the stock is.
My first flintlock rifle and I'm grinning from ear to ear ! ;D
I may change out the iron hardware to silver depending if I can find exact size parts to switch out.

Old scout, nice looking rifle. Changing the furniture from iron to German silver, however, may result in a horse whipping applied to you by yourself.

I agree with Bill, would be a lot of frustration only to end up with something I have never seen on a southern Poor Boy, German Silver furniture. If you want to do some work on the rifle see if you can find posts that describe English-izing that Germanic Siler lock (I seem to remember Ken Guy did one and probably Bookie). All the southern Poor Boys that I have seen used English locks.

You'll not regret leaving it in iron - it is right for that style rifle, and if you ever do want to sell it down the road, German silver would make it an "oddity" and not what someone looking to buy that sort of rifle would generally want.

Is there an English lock that will fit this? I mean pull this one out, install the other no inletting etc?

No - the plate shapes are completely different, and the tail on the Siler is longer than the later English locks that Dennis is referring to. Silers can be modified for a more English look, but you really need to do it before inletting.
I can't really see much from the photo and the link did not work for me, but it looks like a nice rifle as-is. If it were me, I would shoot and enjoy it as-is and if you ever want to do something to dress it up a bit more, maybe add a patchbox and nosecap, etc. This may be your first flintlock, but I doubt it will be your last ;)

Guy covered it well, it's a beautiful piece of wood and a well laid out rifle , with about the best lock out there, so you will enjoy shooting it. I wouldn't change a thing. Check out Chambers site to see the differences between the Germanic, and English locks. You can then check Steve Bookouts web site to get an idea about how to make it more correct. I totally agree with the others, no silver, unless maybe a cheek piece inlay, it's just not done on southern rifles of that era 1800-1830. Enjoy the fun of shooting a rocklock. It will be a good starter for you, and welcome to the site,

Welcome Old Scout, Changing out the iron furniture to silver would be extremely difficult or next to impossible. You would have to have parts hand maid or cast using your iron parts as a pattern, then as one other said you would have a bastardized rifle that would probably be hard to resell. If you want a silver mounted gun buy the parts and build one.
If you look in catalogs you will see some brass parts for southern rifles but no silver.

Welcome Old Scout I build Poor Boys that is nice rifle! Please don't change the furniture, if you really want that kind of furniture build your self a rifle that that kind of hardware would fit the style.

OK OK guys !!!! I am convinced !!! She stays AS IS ! I will build a rifle with silver some day soon.
I will shoot it this weekend and let everyone know what she can do.
Also I am starting to collect my gear for a little "vous" action in the future.........
feel like a big kid again !!! ;D
