I building a smooth bore with a .562 barrel I.D what gage is this ?
and where am I going to get a ball mould around (.550 I would guess?)
-
Not sure of the gauge, probably 26 or 28. Molds would be from Tanner in England.

Larry Callahan will make so called “bag molds” in most any caliber, I believe. Mine work fine. They get hot in a hurry.

It's 26 gauge.

with no grooves a bore size ball and patch combo should work.
Easy enough to try a .535 ball and .015” patch Adjust ball to .530 or patch as needed. I use a .600 and .010 in my 20 ga.
.535 + .015 + .015 = .565

t/C had a mold for their 56 smooth bore witch I believe was .550. Also seen Lyman molds in .550. Try E Bay.

Exactly, I see those 550 molds around here quite a bit, as that was one of the only BP arms that could be used here in Mass (prior MZL season was smoothbores only).

26bore is .564" = 269.2gr.
27bore is .577" = 259.3gr.
