Hound Horn /Bugle

Want to make a hunting horn and need some guidance on forming the mouthpiece.  Any experience with making a horn mouthpiece I would appreciate it especially with some photos.  Appears
the mouthpiece would need to be an applied piece.

Jerry. I have only made a few blowing horns, years ago. I just cut the horn down to the wider portion and hollowed out the mouthpiece. They worked adequately. I have heard of using mouthpieces from musical instruments, or using  a mouthpiece for a pattern. I believe the wider the "cavity" the lower the tone. This cavity is 1/2" X 1/2". The horn is about 12 1/2 "tip to tip.

When I was a kid, (1976-1980) I had a couple  Walker Black & Tan mix hounds that I named "Bugle." and "Smokey." Such sweet dear friends. Bugle looked like a 100% Walker and her sister Smokey looked like 100% Black & Tan. I bought a cow horn to call them in with and did my best to train them to it. Alas, when on a hot trail they rarely broke and returned to me even with all the training.... I spent many a stressful nights, blowing that darn horn waiting for them to return home. After a few days, they would return tired and cut up. I would doctor their wounds and feed them and after a day or so, they would be trying to dig out of their dog run and go out again... I could hear them bawling out in the Sierra Nevada foothills following a trail.

memories.... Ken
