 Now you must explain the mechanism around the sear. Safety?
                        
 Why is a horizontal sear desribed in books as primitive when it is applied to later English and Dutch locks, when it so refined in earlier Cross bows, wheel locks, snaphaunces, Baltic locks, Mediterranean locks etc? The sear is very refined, it must be only fashion that builders turned away from such a great idea.

Horizontal sear... my issue with a horizontal sear is that it engages the wheel with nothing more than a nub at a 90 degree angle through a hole in the plate. At least that is how it is on my wheelock.  Its gracefull but has a tendency of breaking right off.

I will take some pictures when I get home.  My Wheelock's (older reproduction) sear is a weak point I have been thinking of reengineering so it won't break.

On my wheelock the bar sear has this pitiful nub on it that has a tendency of breaking off as it has to hold back the wheel. I am in the process of returning this fellow to service (its not in the greatest shape right now)
I have pulled the sear and placed a nail pointing at the nub being referred to.

you need to change the relationship between "A" and "B" or replace the spring on a much stronger.You introduce a picture of the inside mechanism.
