Also this way even if the Pix are lost, PC Crash, they can be replaced.
Time and time again, someone posts that their PC or hard drive have crashed and they lost everything. There is really no reason for this to be so and there are many alternatives. You just have to be proactive about saving things.
1. I still have photos available from when I had Windows 3.1 years ago. They are stored on 3.5 floppies. You can buy a remote floppy drive with a USB connector that will plug in to your current computer and recover all that old stuff.
2. You can also purchase hard drive enclosures and install your old hard drive in it, or you can install your old hard drive in your new computer as a secondary drive. Those files are still there and can be accessed that way.
3. Portable hard drives can also be purchased and used to periodically transfer your files to them. These have USB connectors so you can access them from any computer.
4. Flash drives do the same thing and have sufficient storage to hold tons of photos and files.
5. CD's can now be formatted as though they were flash drives and you can read and write files to them until they are full. Previously they were a one time use item. This is no longer true.
By using Windows File Explorer, you can copy whole directories to any of the above by just dragging and dropping them into the storage media device. There is no reason whatsoever that you should lose all your files except that you never took the time to save them on to a backup device.
