After years of slow progress, my first carved rifle--inspired by JP Beck's work--is getting closer to completion. Most of the carving is done, although I still have a bit of modeling and incising to do on the tang carving.

Anyway, here is where things sit right now. It's far from perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how things are going. Sometimes, though, it's nice to have a different perspective, so if anyone sees anything fixable that I can address before it's too late, please let me know! Thanks!

I’ve spent the last few months cleaning up the carving and tweaking the architecture, and I’m finally to the point of staining and varnishing. Been dreading using iron nitrate but also pretty sure it was what I’d use due to originality. It turned out pretty nicely, and the curl is incredible. Actually it detracts from the carving a bit, but I’m not too concerned about that. Now it's on to varnishing.....

Here’s a picture of the original. It’s quite a bit redder than every other Beck I’ve seen, so I’ve decided to stick with a color that’s more like the usual Beck color:
