George Schroyer 090404-2

This signed G. Schreyer is described in Shumway's Shroyer book as No. 13.
I think gunbuilders might like additional information and color pictures
as this rifle is rather typical of Schreyer. This rifle is interesting in
addition because I think that the whole of it is original. The breech area
is typical with the flower, a small circular silver inlay, and a squared
tang.
pull 12 3/4
breech 1 in. Octagon to round barrel, 45 3/16 in. long, smoothbore.
Buttplate 1 3/4 in.wide and 4 5/8 in. high.
Patchbox lid 1 1/4 in. wide. Lid is 4 5/8 in. long to center of hinge.
Head is 2 3/8 in. long.
Tang is 1 13/16 in. long.
Nose cap is 1 1/2 in. long. Rounded, no groove.
Wedges are brass. Slotted, trapped keys. I doubt these were formed given
the size of the heads. Cast or two pieces brazed together. I think cast.
Reeves Goering # 8 buttplate is very close. His # 12 Schreyer triggerguard
is perfect in general but not as deep as this gun. All other things are
exactly the same. In fact , I think they are the same pattern. Thick sand
castings lend themselves to bending and modification.
