My old flintlock.....
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:31:36 PM »
Been a lot of years since I owned a flintlock, this one is the last one I had.

Sold it, which was stupid, stupid, very stupid!

Now I'm in the planning stage of building myself one. REALLY looking forward to it!

As a reference, the little gal in the pic is my daughter......now 31 years old!

.45 caliber built by Jim Tawney of Corning NY, 13/16 early Bill Large barrel, Bob Roller lock and trigger.

Alvah,
Welcome to ALR.  Pretty little girl and a nice looking rifle.  Build the new one and keep it around for her and her kids!

There are 2 rifles I sold years ago that I really kick myself over.
When I think about it I want to hit my head on a door frame repeatedly.
Both by Don King. One was a Kentucky he made for a mutual friend and the other was "Big Timber #1" John Baird's Hawken.
Why I sold the Hawken I will never know. Just stupid, stupid, stupid. The other went to a doctor bill.
But I still lament it as well.
But I was pretty destitute most of the time back then so.....

Very nice looking rifle and that little girl of yours sure melts the heart.  They sure grow up fast.  I'm in the same boat....sold my only Flintlock rifle for our Church mission in Zambia.  Glad I did it but going through severe withdrawl and planning a new one! So far, have a Rayle barrel ordered and looking at Tiger Hunt stocks :)

If it doesn't coast me money, I don't sell it. Unless I built to sell.   Al

I know how you feel. I had a 36 caliber southern poor boy squirrel rifle, it had a 3/4" flat to flat 42" long barrel, all iron furniture. It would shoot 3/4" groups at 50 yards. I sold it eighteen years ago, I've regreted it ever since.

But on the brighter side I'm having other one made for me.  :)
