That is a soldered on sight.  Track sells them.  Looks like he filed/sanded most of the base away.

It is a X shaped base.  I left more of the silver X show on my gun.

I'm seeing the "X" as much larger than that. Something else is going on here, methinks.

Not sure if you are kidding but in  case you're not, it's an English spider type and the silver is inlaid in the barrel. Jim made everything on the gun except the lock.  I know the CA Kid has done one and maybe he can detail the procedure.

Sorry guys.  My earlier comment didn't read to good.

I meant that Track sells a cast version of that type of sight.  It can be soldered onto the barrel.

I don't know how your builder may have gone about it.

Scott, I believe he actually sculpted and chased the thumbpiece.

Just talked to Jim and he said the thumb piece was cast from coin silver then rolled into sheet. The coat of arms was then chisled and engraved as James said. The only thing he didn't make is the lock. Barrel is a blank that was bored by Don Getz. Jim did the outside profile himself. He made the breech as well. If you study the breech it can be seen that it is a quite complex profile.

I have had the gun here for a week and can understand your feelings above.  It is a wonderful piece. This is the only Hash gun known to have been sold by the original owner. Any others were disbursed by the widows.
