old working rifle

i have this rifle marked in script on top of barrel flat B. L. Raims. rifle is in good condition to be a working rifle. rifle consist of lock (marked T. DAVIDSON &CO.) ,barrel is 30 cal.,cast steel with snail brazed to barrel to accept  the percussion nipple. Stock is maple and fullstock. trigger guard is brass and looks like a late pennsylvania one. set triggers are well made as is the lock. it has two brass ramrod thimbles. made by a good builder because the barrel channel is a almost perfect inlet,as is the lock,tang and trigger guard. the trigger guard is 3 1/2 long and has a sphere point, held on by one screw. If i knew how to send a picture i would. I just registered yesterday.

what i meant was north or south of the mason-dixon line ,sorry for the spelling errow

A lot of Ohio guns have Davidson locks on them..I think Davidson locks were made in Cincinnati mid 1800's..I looked in a couple books I have and did not find a gunsmith with the name of Raims...Are you sure that is the spelling, sometimes on those old guns the letters are hard to decipher?.Why don't you try posting your question in the antique collecting forum...Or is your gun a contemporary using old parts??Pictures would be nice, I can hardly get them on here myself ,but there is a post on here that explains the procedure...

thanks for the reply. script on top of barrel could be  (B) (J or L) (Rains). built and collected longrifles for 50 years and never came across this name. i'll post this description on the antique collecting part of this forum. bought this rifle at a gun show in charlotte, n. c. many years ago. i just doesn't  look like a southern built working rifle. you could be close in saying Ohio. I'll see if i can find out how to post pictures to this forum. thank again.
