          On a halfstock or full stock rifle,what determines,how many underlugs there
should be?Is it,per inch of barrel?

Ernie......I don't really know of any hard and fast rules concerning underlugs.   On a half stock gun you could live with one
or two, whatever suits your fancy.   On a 38" barrel I would use three, on a 42" barrel, probably four, but you could also
use just three.   Anything over 42" I would use four.    As for placement with three or four, I usually place the rear one at
about 7" from the breech, the front one about 3" to 3 1/2" from the muzzle, and the others evenly spaced between them..........................Don

On a full stock gun I prefer to use 4 lugs:  Forward one 3 1/2" from muzzle. I measure the distance from that pin to the tang screw location and divide by 4 for spacing the other 3 pins.  Should I use ony 3 pins the center one seems to want to come very close to where the center ram rod pipe is located and makes for quite a cut out in the stock which I don't like.

Dave hit on an important point. Lay out your ramrod pipes at the same time you lay out your lugs so they don't interfer.

What should you use as a minimum thickness for the barrel when you dovetail your lugs?
At what thickness of barrel do you want to start soldering the lugs to the barrel?
