Friend with a rifle which has a Christopher Gumpf signed barrel. Appears to be an older octagonal flintlock barrel restocked and converted to percussion. The lock is marked N. Ashmore with a percussion hammer and a drum/nipple installed in the barrel. Can you educate me a bit on Gumpf and when he was working. The stock is a very thin style with deep narrow buttplate, single lockbolt and appears to be much later than the barrel which shows considerable patina and no rifling. The corrosion on the barrel is not consistent with the good finish remaining on the stock and the brass furniture's wear. I can't post photos from where I am staying but in about 10 days I will be back home and will post them then.
