i have a percussion cap long rifle that i know nothing about. it has a octagon barrel that is 45 inches long and the gun is 62 inches in overall length. it is rusty but i did try to clean the makers mark which i cannot make out. it is two ovals, one inside the other. there is words or name between the ovals. the top half all i can read is it ends in an OH or CH. the bottom reads GOLC...R, or GOLG...R. inner oval has leaves or something. want to know who this maker is. ???

I believe that you're looking at the stamping on the lock. Golcher is very common but not the riflemaker. Best to provide us with photos if possible. The maker (if the gun is signed) will have placed his signature on the top barrel flat between the breach plug and the rear sight.
