On youtube, Midway has a 2 part series about making turnscrews.
British gunsmith, Jack Rowe, makes one while showing steel choice, shaping, hardening, tempering, and handles.

When I asked what resources for turnscrews and other hand tools the Gun Shop at Colonial Williamsburg uses, this is the book they showed me.

The asking price is CHEAP and if you have never seen this book and are interested in period correct tools, this will amaze you.  I paid $ 110.00 for my first copy before they reprinted them again.
