Hawken reference book?
« on: June 06, 2012, 05:47:43 PM »
what are the essential/best books for researching Hawken rifles? Considering their popularity I'm sure there is a good bit of reference material out there but I'd rather find out which ones are the best sources before dropping cash.

I'd prefer more and better pictures and descriptions.

Thank guys

The best picture book I have is by far Jim Gordon's Vol. 3 of his three book set.  Hanson's book is very informative and Baird's book is also a good read with several black and white examples of Hawkens' rifles.  I can give you titles, ISBN #'s and such if it interests you.

R L Wilson's Steel Canvas and The Peacemakers also show some nice color pics of several Hawken rifles.   Smylee

I agree with smylee, the Peacemakers is one of my books of choice because of the quality of the photographs, especially the Kit Carson Hawken.

I think Gordons book is tops but R.L. Wilson's   The Peacemakers and Steel Canvas are also worth a good look. If I was going to buy only one it would be Jim Gordons three book series.
