I would be curios as to what types of steel you are using.

As a metallurgist I have my own opinions, one of which is listen to the guy that makes on what works.

Most parts look like hot rolled steel, I presume low carbon. Will you case carburize some of them?
And what works for you as far as making a spring goes?

I shoot with a German-American guy & would like to get him in touch with his heritage - i.e., radschloss He thinks I know something of metals, would prefer not to mislead him.

wheellock mechanism requires a good steel! parts exposed to high loads are tool steel (1% - 1.5% carbon). . must skillfully tempered steel .when  use inferior steel, it is necessary to enrich the carbon steel. It also screws carbon steel, when the screw has a soft steel, it is necessary to enrich the carbon steel..
wheellock mechanism requires  from the builder good knowledge of the mechanical properties of steel , and requires from the builder, the skill enrichment steel using carbon.
good mechanism wheellock = a lot of work + workshop experience ( technology, engineering, humility...)
