Up till just the other day I would have said that the only way to put a release on a banana style patch box was the nail type driven into the stock at the proper position to allow for the head of the release to move out of the way to let the lid pop up. I saw a nice banana patch box on a TN mt gun that had a release in the toe plate. Go figure. I guess that old addage of ever saying always or never when it comes to these old guns. The only thing you can say is that it was typically done this way.
Well I am wrong the rifle I was thinking of was posted on the old site under Dixie I by Tim M, but it is not a banana type patch box. It is Iron mounted but may not be a TN rifle I am not sure
