Peg lamps?
« on: January 02, 2013, 07:48:49 PM »
I'm looking for a source--I know I had one--for ceramic or tin/copper PEG LAMPS. They are small oil fonts that have a "peg" on the bottom that fits a candle holder or a candle lantern, allowing the use of (whale) oil in place of candles.

This search is proof that bookmarks are better than brain cells for certain needs...

Thanks, SB, those are precisely the ones I had seen. I've occasionally run across tin and copper ones as well, but don't currently know of a source of those. There are antiques available here and there. There's a YouTube video of a fellow showing his collection. Interesting items. Not sure of the correct Historical Period for them. IMU the oil copper and glass "candles" don't have the historical support.

I have two "peg lamps" that I use in lanterns, in place of candles.  A filling of lamp oil will go many nights of camping.  We do
French and Indian War period.  These disappeared after some yahoo decided to burn white gas in his....like a bomb.  The folks
who made them quit selling them immediately.  Turkey Foot is a good outfit, and they have lots of good stuff.  Jim

Makes as much sense as Gusler, Martin, Rase, et.al. no longer selling muzzleloaders because some fool loads one with 4227.

??? Good grief, did that really happen?   ??? :o

Times have sure changed. Gun control used to mean keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
