Any experience with Allegheny Rifle Woeks Barrels?
« on: June 09, 2013, 11:33:51 PM »
I purchased a barrel with no markings a couple weeks ago from a fella selling his fathers parts after he passed on.

He said the barrel was purchased from Allegheny Rifle Works.

It is a .50 cal., 43" swamped barrel, square cut rifling with a 1 in 66" twist. The barrel is in nice condition with no rust or pitting.

Have any of you fella's from the east had any experience with this barrel maker? Are they still around?

I'm going strictly by memory here. Allegheney Rifle works used heavy Douglas barrels purchased in quantity, chopped an inch or two off the muzzle, and swamped them thus satisfying a need at the time. All 1 turn in 66 in. Late 70's. This didn't last long as Paris and then Getz who replaced Paris, picked up the demand. Douglas itself began selling swamped barrels shortly thereafter. And did so until it's withdrawl from the market.
Don Getz, I'm sure , will have a better answer if I'm wrong as he was part of all this.
