Thanks for posting...I really like the rifle, but it would take my SS check for much longer than I can go without food...and my car is not worth that much.....so I will just admire it.

There's a lot of fine work gone into that rifle.  The attention to detail of the lock's plate and the triggers/guard assembly caught my eye.  I don't know whether the cast nose cap is authentic, and the hammer seems a little to much like the Davis casting from which it appears to have been filed.  I'd like to hear Louis' remarks on the rifle.

The buttlplate is one of my sticking points and a tip off to any "expert" that its likely made with TOW parts. Its not horrible but the guy missed it by a wide to not so wide margin in the fine details so its not close to an accurate representation of the Modena rifle from the builders point of view. From looking at Baird's book the forend cap, tirggers, TG is wrong, lock panels not right, stars way off, comb line is too straight and more and this from the few photos in JDB's book. When doing this sort of thing its either right or its not. This rifle is not when compared to the original its supposed to be a copy of.

It's a representation or facsimile more than a hard replica like those Tom Dawson made.
A lot of work went into it,far more than I ever want to tackle again.

I'm 99% sure the hammer on this lock is from the Morgan lock like I sometimes make.

I have to agree with Dan the original comb has a slight roman nose to it and the butt plate does not come out as far on the original rifle at the toe.
 Modenas rifle has a nice round curve  but the COPY IS A NICE RIFLE  that I would have been proud of if I built it

 just a look at a rifle like this one makes me salivate, people who hate guns have never seen the artistry they represent, this is a true master work in its best form, nothing like being able to hold and fondle such beautiful piece, thanks for sharing
