New Maryland Rifle off the bench...
« on: February 27, 2014, 04:23:29 PM »
I feel sorta like Punxatawny Phil poking my head out of the shop after winter, but I'm coming out with a new rifle at least.   :)  .50, 42" Colerain B weight, Chambers siler lock, sugar maple stock, just a generally Maryland styled rifle.  This one is going, soon, to a buddy's 16 year old son who's just finishing his eagle scout work.  Boy has seen it in progress when he's been here hunting with us, but never knew it was going to be his.  Still gotta finish aging some of the brass and inlays, but the light was great for taking pics...

Outstanding!
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Considering only one to two percent of all scouts ever succeed in making to Eagle. It's definitely a fitting gift. As a long time scouter I applaud your effort, and his. God bless! BJH

You've captured so much of the Maryland flavour in this rifle.  Congrats on a winter well spent.

There's a lot to like about this rifle. In my opinion, of course, it really looks 'right' for a a gun of that time period. Good job.

I don't know a whole lot about MD rifles, but what  I do know sure does show up on that rifle. You really nailed it, to my eye.

I'm with Mark- I never got a present like that either!!

Beautiful gun.  Fine work indeed.  Can't think of a better gift idea for an Eagle scout.   ;D

That rifle is just beautiful, and I love those Colerain "B" weight barrels...powerful yet very light and slender.
