Joel, Thanks for sharing. I love the sweeping flow of the buttstock carving. Keeping the cheekpiece forward Abe gave himself a wide canvas for the carving.

Joel,

I too was struck by buttstock carving and the visual appeal of a long and flowing butt.  Just out of curiosity, what is the trigger pull distance?  A real beauty, Joel.

Looks like a restock of mixed parts ;) :D ;D :o  Seriously, great rifle!
I really like how they filled the lock mortise when it was converted.  Is that a
steel inlay or wood, I can't tell, but it's really well done.  For changing the
lock plate style, I've not seen any done better.  Additionally, whoever added
that patent breech (if that's the correct term) did a super job.   A really nice
rifle.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Thank you for showing your latest find, Joel. Truly a fine piece and a great rifle by Schweitzer. The carving is grand, and stands with the best of his work that I have seen. This patent breech conversion method is what I wish all gunsmiths had used. This is a very fine change over. Contrast this with the backwoods smith just sawing off the breech of a fine rifle and cropping the fore stock that we mostly encounter today. There would probably be fewer reconversions done today if the percussion conversions had been done this well. Thank you again.

Major Joel, my little Easton rifle has this plate on top of the wrist.  I don't mean to jump to conclusions but, compare this to the Schweitzer barrel signature.  While trying to figure out the maker a couple of years ago, Schweitzer flashed through my brain.

Excuse my ignorance....but that which appears to be a plugged hole entering the cheek rest....is that for a vent pick or something else?
