Our local paper published a story about a powder horn stolen from a museum in western Mass. in 1949 being recently returned. According to the article the horn was made at Crown Point July 2. 1760 for militiaman Jonathan Smead. Supposedly the man who returned the horn found it in a trash dump in the late fifties and only learned it was stolen when he tried recently to get it appraised.
Anyone familiar with this horn? Any published pictures available of it? It sounds interesting. The article describes it as "intricately carved" with "images of deer, mermaids, ships and fish". The article doesn't give the name of the museum.
