Folding Leaf sights on English Sporting Rifle
« on: February 20, 2015, 09:06:00 PM »
Hi folks,
I'm looking for drawings and/or detailed photographs of folding leaf open rear sights for an English Sporting Rifle, late 1700's. I was also wondering if this type of sight would be appropriate for this time period.
Thanks, Richard

Might not be appropriate, but I sure like mine. Got them from Brownell's in 1986.

Thanks Daryl,
Looks like nice express sights. You can sure pick up that front sight in low light. I'm looking for something more compact though.
Thanks Richard

Thanks gunmaker I will check them out.
I would like to machine my own though. Do you perhaps know if the folding leaf is retained folded or upright by a leaf spring? Something like the frizzen when it goes over center in either direction ?
Thanks for the help.
Richard
I just checked out the Track sight. Their leaf sight is the style I was looking for. Thanks Gunnie

Here is one I made from Track's Jaeger sight. It is similar to a sight on a John Twigg rifle from 1779.
