First Horn
« on: March 06, 2009, 06:07:05 AM »
I recently finished my first horn.  I dedicated it to my son, who is my usual hunting partner.  The map was copied from a circa 1800 map of our county I recently came across.  Finished with a hand carved mahogany plug, hand made staple and hand rubbed beeswax.

The antlers are from a Roe Deer that belonged to my great uncle in Bavaria.

Thanks for all the compliments and encouragement.  I am starting on another horn that will be a gift to my father for his 30 years of service in the military.  8 years army and 22 years USCG.  I figured that after being shot down twice in Vietnam, getting shot at by drug smugglers and having a boat blow up under him getting people off it when it was on fire...that he deserves it.  He looked at my first while I was working on it and commented...so now I am working on one for him for his birthday in June.

Great idea!  I'm sure he will treasure the horn always.  You'll have to let us have a sneak peak ya know.  ;)
