Several powder horns are represented in the Rufus Alexander Grider collection at the New-York Historical Society. They also have some original horns. Here are a few examples. More can be found by searching the name above in your preferred search engine and clicking the image tab or by going to the society's website.

I really love seeing these old horns. There were some cool ones at one of the NRA booths last March. I can't recall whose booth it was. I've been debating making one of these to send to my former mentor as a thank you for all he taught me in the hours we spent chatting. He had an old powder horn hanging in his office that I took note of during our meetings, but it was plain. My drawing skills are pretty shoddy at best, but since folk art tends to be relatively crude looking anyways, I might be able to pull something off that isn't embarrassing. ::) I've been wanting to pick up some primitive craft for a while know. Especially something relatively inexpensive to get started on.

Thanks Tim. I had seen the website but not the book you recommended.
