Looking for piloted drillbits and reamers
« on: May 18, 2016, 05:18:42 PM »
I'm visiting Dyson, England 5th july this summer and plan to buy one of the rough forged damacus barrel blanks to make smooth bore pistol barrels. The tubes forged bore size is 0.52 and should clean out to 0.56 - 0.58.

Where can I buy long piloted drills and reamers  size 0.54 - 0.60 ?

Best regards
Rolf

 Rolf.
The blanks that I bought are too rough on the inside for the use of a pilot. They had to be straightened and drilled out first.

How did you do that? I'm hoping to make three pistol barrels about 10 to 12 inches long out of the rifle blank.

Rolf,

Brownells sells piloted drill bits for installing barrel liners.  brownells.com  15.1mm/0.593 finished diameter, although these are expensive.  A simple pilot drill is not too difficult to make, even just using a bench grinding wheel.  Check out the topic "wrought iron barrel re-use".
