Good afternoon,
I have been a few decades without doing any stocking up or building. My youngest son has expressed an interest in building and I bought him a Traditions pistol kit as a getting your feet wet project. Mostly so he could see the parts relationship.
At the same time I dug out an old lock kit I started many many years ago, a piece of good popar, and a chunk of an old CVA barrel. I cut down the old barrel, turned the rusty off, then I made a bolster blank from some 1144 and breeched the barrel to a proper fit. Now I need to shape and drill the bolster. I am curious as to any suggestions as to the best way to drill the flash channel. I can think of several but I am nterested in thoughts from others. I have had bolsters drilled at an angle from the nipple seat to the chamber, but they always seem to get a bit too close to the thread shoulder, maybe I should cross drill?
Parts
Lock alongside bolster, enough room? I think so.
My intent is to build alongside him so he can see and help with a build from a blank. I need to refresh my hands anyway as I have a project I have been wanting to do. I have not checkered or stocked up in twenty years. So I figure I can re-learn a few things on this pistol.
He deploys for a third time in June and we want to get both pistols built and fired before he leaves. I need to get the bolster done so I can start the barrel into the stock the same time he starts his kit.
Thanks for any input.
