Hi Folks,
I finished off my first work on a horn this week. Notice I didn't say I "made" the horn!
Ron Hess made a Jim Kibler grade "kit" to encourage my artistically talented step-daughter a while back. With her many varied art endeavors, she didn't get far on the project. I decided that just wouldn't do.
So I took on scraping, finishing, and assembling the horn.
So here's the deal, if you like it, Ron gets the credit. If you hate it, I get the blame. :-)
Ron shared with me a technique for finishing the horn with RIT dye. I didn't listen closely enough, and the horn ended up looking like "The Neon Electric Peach". I spent a while on the front porch scraping all of that off. I called Ron, and hopefully I got it right after he carefully explained it all to me again.
The tip, band and base plug are all pinned on with tapered hardwood pins.
I whittled the simple stopper.
Now I just need to learn "the rest of the story".
Thanks Ron! Best wishes, Marc
