Jim kibler rifles. Wait?
« on: June 15, 2017, 04:46:47 PM »
I'm getting ready to purchase another kit for a summer project. I've been drooling over the Kibler rifles I've seen on  this forum since  first introduced.

I want one very bad and will probably order one either way, but I was wondering how long of a wait I'm looking at for a extra fancy maple kit .36 ?

Lost arrow just give Jim a call or check his web site. He or Katherine will gladly answer your questions. The fancy wood might be the main delay. Last I checked it was 3 month's. But that was awhile ago. Oldtravler

I treated myself to one of Jims kits so I would have a gun for myself (Shoemaker has no shoes syndrome) and I got one with fancy wood also. In a little less than 90 days, Katherine called and said Jim had an extra nice piece of maple for a small additional charge and did I want it. I agreed and it was in my hands in less than 4 days. Everything everybody says is true, took me a few easy days to put together, and a few more days to stain (AF) and finish. I only added a toe plate and a silver quarter moon face inlet in the cheek piece. I also made my own sights, I prefer a smaller notch in the rear sight that in the casting provided.  I love it, except now everybody wants to buy it and I have to say no or I will right back where I started with no gun of my own. Call Jim/Katherine today and order it. You will not regret it.

Things are going well here.  With the new shop and equipment our production has increased dramatically.  Currently the wait time is somewhere around 3-4 weeks for most offerings.  We plan on having kits in inventory and should have these available in a month or so.

We've been working on the next kit model as well.  This takes time, but progress is being made.

We're proud of what we currently produce, but also have lots of ideas to make our products even better.  In fact, today, I'll be making some minor changes to make assembly even easier .  A cnc metalworking machine is probably not  in the too distant future as well.  Things can be pushed even further than we have already.

Thanks for all the support.

Jim

Jim,

Great to hear thought is going into your next kit. Any word on what time period, geographic area? Have you decided on a type of lock?

Can't wait to hear more on this!

Gregg,

Good to hear from you.  I hadn't seen you post for a while and was hoping you were doing well.  Anyways, the earlier rifle will be 1760's or 1770's period.  It will have a big buttplate probably in the range of 2.062" and the barrel breech will be around 1.125".  It will be available in .50 and .54 caliblers.  I plan on using a round faced English lock.  Will have accomodations for a sliding wood box or a sheet metal box.  Brass mounts etc...

Jim, Have you given any thought to doing a test using the Mirror Image function in your control to machine a LH stock? If you have a RH program the Mirror Image will either machine you a complete LH stock or one very close. I used it quite a bit machining structural components for the Air Force. Of course your current fixtures may need modification.

Lost Arrow, I'm working on my third kit now. Wait on each was right at 3 months. Well worth the wait and well worth the money. I'm a beginner and the kits are a breeze. I'm not building the guns to sell, They're for me. I like them that much. They are a pleasure to shoot as well as to look at and the most accurate muzzleloader I've ever shouldered. You won't regret a Kibler kit. Customer service is second to none. The Post Office destroyed my last kit. Broke the 3/4" plywood box in half, along with the beautiful stock and bent the tang on the barrel, Not sure about the barrel itself, but Jim and Katherine had me a new barrel and stock in a few days. No waiting for insurance or even inspecting the damage. They sent me the new parts and asked me to return the damaged ones. It doesn't get any better. Thanks Jim and Katherine and good luck Lost Arrow.
