Fixing photbucket pictures.
« on: September 17, 2017, 11:33:40 AM »
Photobucket has not deleted my Third party hosting jet, but thats just a question of time. I fixe the Pictures in this post quick an easy. http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=14643.0
I  right clicked on each Picture in the original post and saved them to a folder on my computor. If you left click on a Picture, you open the Photobucket site and get clobberd With pop ups. Next I used the "Add image to post" to load up the images again to the post. It took only a couple of minetes. If Photobucket has not gotten around to deleting Your Third party hosting, NOWs the time to fix Your posts.

Best regards

Hi Rolf,
Thanks for the post.  I do not believe Photobucket intends to delete people's accounts just not allow them to share photos on bulletin boards and forums if they do not subscribe to the fee. I think they still allow free photo hosting but not sharing those photos with third party vendors.

WOW! That does seem to work. I knew somebody, Thanks Rolf, would figure out a simpler fix than  searching through folders to find the Pix. Also this way even if the Pix are lost, PC Crash, they can be replaced.

 Thanks Again, Tim C.

Time and time again, someone posts that their PC or hard drive have crashed and they lost everything.  There is really no reason for this to be so and there are many alternatives.  You just have to be proactive about saving things.

1.  I still have photos available from when I had Windows 3.1 years ago.  They are stored on 3.5 floppies.  You can buy a remote floppy drive with a USB connector that will plug in to your current computer and recover all that old stuff.
2.  You can also purchase hard drive enclosures and install your old hard drive in it, or you can install your old hard drive in your new computer as a secondary drive.  Those files are still there and can be accessed that way.
3.  Portable hard drives can also be purchased and used to periodically transfer your files to them.  These have USB connectors so you can access them from any computer.
4.  Flash drives do the same thing and have sufficient storage to hold tons of photos and files.
5.  CD's can now be formatted as though they were flash drives and you can read and write files to them until they are full.  Previously they were a one time use item.  This is no longer true.

By using Windows File Explorer, you can copy whole directories to any of the above by just dragging and dropping them into the storage media device.  There is no reason whatsoever that you should lose all your files except that you never took the time to save them on to a backup device.

Thanks for the info TOF -- I have to do that with my old computer I have sitting in the closet - never did want to trash it because it has all my old pictures & data on it -- now I will. ;)

There is one potential hangup.   Those files are keyed to the username and password of the old computer. This is because they are stored under "My Pictures" or My Documents." When you access them from a new computer, you will get a "permission warning" and will have to log on as an administrator and change the permission to take ownership of the file.  There is a work around.

Fire up your old computer.  Click on My Computer and then C: drive.  Navigate to the Windows folder and open it.  Then make a new folder called Paul's Files.  Now open File Manager.  Drag all the files in the two above named directories to Paul's Files.  They are then no longer keyed to the required username and password and can be accessed or copied from a new computer.

I purposely do this with each new computer I get and periodically move my pics and documents into Dave's Files to avoid any future problems.
