Pedersoli Shotgun Nipple Size

Any idea what the nipple size is for a Pedersoli double barrel shotgun manufactured in 1980?  It is not 1/4-28.  They must have used different sizes back then.  Is there an easy way to figure this out?  Thanks for the help!

I believe the nipples are 1/4x28.

Seems like I read that the Pedersoli used a "tight" 1/4 x28.  i just read that a few days ago because I recently bought a Pedersoli 12 double made in 1979 according to the date code.  The nipples have square removal surfaces. My concern was the holes down through to the firing chamber look to be about .090 inch.  My concern was hammer blowback.

I believe they are a metric size thread. You might try asking Track of the Wolf. I'm sure they'd know.

Take the barrels to the allen screw section of the hardware store and start looking.

I have a 1977 SxS Pedersoli and it takes 1/4 x28.

Leatherbark,I replaced my nipples on mine when I got the gun a couple of months ago.I think mine still had the original nipples in it,and they had the square flats on the nipple.

OK, I feel stupid lol.  It is indeed 1/4 x 28.  I contacted Track and they explained that they use H-0 to H-1 tolerance which makes them very snug.  I needed to really lube up the nipple to get it going.  Also interesting is that they said since it was made in 1980 it is probably a 13 gauge even though it's marked 12 gauge.

You could run a 1/4-28 tap through it.

Measure the bores.  13 is .705" (or close) and 12 is .729" (or close)  You will need to know which, to order the correct wads.  If it is indeed, 13 bore, you will likely need 12 bore wads - or 11 bore wads for a 12, etc.
If no chokes, you might want to forego the thick cushion wads as they can injure patterns.

You are correct.  I just measured the bore and it is .704"

Glad it got figured out.  Thing is nobody can tell you what you have over the internet.

Measure the major diameter and thread pitch.  Compare it to this chart.

H0... Wow. That would be snug.

I did machine work in my younger days. I could never get a tap with that class of fit to cut a thread that would pass the GO/NO GO gauging... I liked a GH3 and if it cut loose enough that I got over 2 turns on the NO GO I would give it a few swipes with a hone and it would usually snug up enough to pass.

They are metrics.That "tight" 1/4x28 is probably an M6 (6MM).Some of these
imported guns have case hardened breeches which makes it a gamble to retap
to the 1/4x28. Check the diameter with a properly calibrated micrometer and see
what it really is. If it's .236 or thereabout then it IS a 6MM.
The.090 flash hole would blow back hard in the long range muzzle loader Pedersoil
makes and I know they make a shotgun of the same profile.Good looking guns but
the rifles have sights installed.

I ran a 1/4-28 tap in it and it smoothed right up. It didn't take much. I turned the tap by hand. No wrench/tap holder was needed. It was more like removing some small burrs.

OK,I suppose that Pedersoli changed to the USA type threads which is a good idea
for the American market. I have rethreaded some of the metrics to 1/4x28 but now
I seldom do any rethreading on anything.
