Reusing a case colored lock and triggers

I can't make up my mind what to do here, so maybe some expert advice will help.  I'm planning a Hawken build and am thinking about reusing a Roller lock and triggers that have been case colored and engraved.  The lock plate perfectly fits the bolster on the L & R breech plug I'm using, and it is already relieved at the rear to give me the flare Hawkens had at the front of the lock.  Obviously I will ding the parts up while putting them in the stock, but can I polish them up enough to get through the case hardening so I can have them re engraved and re case colored? If so, what's the best way to go about it?

I would think that to "ding" these parts they would have to be struck
with a metallic object,hammer or so such tools. Try a leather faced small hammer
to seat the lock plate in the out cut where it will be and tap,not hit.
Can you post some pictures of these parts??
