Me and "Little sureshot" had a good morning
« on: May 05, 2018, 07:46:33 AM »
Me and "little sureshot" took this gobbler this morning. He had short spurs but an 11 inch beard.
I built "little sureshot" for hunting turkeys and general shooting 15 years ago. She has a Rice Premium B profile .40 caliber rifled barrel, LH Large Siler Flintlock, Davis set triggers, Iron furniture set in a Issac Haines type stock. My load was .390 round ball, .018 Pillow Ticking patch lubed with Canola oil and 60 grains of 3fg.

American horses of Arabian descent.

Nice work in both cases.  What a magnificent bird!  I like your load.

Nice work!  I sure like your photo composition as well...much better than the typical “ fan shot”.  Congrats on a beautiful bird!

I’m currently working on a .36 caliber Gillespie style SMR that will be my squirrel/turkey rifle.

Congratulations on a successful hunt!

I also like the lay out of the picture. Nice bird, nice gun!

Hunting turkeys with a rifle is a no-no here in Missouri. Shoguns only. I have a 20ga. flintlock smoothbore I'd like to take a turkey with. It's taken deer and squirrels and I'd like to add a turkey to the list. Shot two deer in less than a minute but that's a story for another time!

Knee problems kept me out of the woods this spring but hoping to go in the fall.

Again congratulations to you!

Excellent work and hunt! The Rice "B" weight is a GREAT shooting barrel in .40. Holds beautifully. Well done.

That's a great photo!  My .40 also has a "B" wgt barrel and balances nicely.  The rifle is beautiful, especially being next to a nice turkey.

Keep in mind that I don't claim to be a gunbuilder, and certainly not an artist. I'm just a hunter so build plain hunting rifles. But I do claim to build very accurate rifles. These aren't really good photo's, I took them one afternoon freehand so they are lacking clear detail. I need to set up my tripod and do it right.

There's nothing wrong with your photography skills.  I think that iron mounted guns and stocks that are not highly figured go hand in hand myself.

You may not be a gun builder, but you could certainly play a convincing one on TV.

Beautiful work... And your photography skills are fine too.

Here's a couple more from yesterday's practice photo session. My old eyes can't really tell if the image is sharper or not unless I open it and then click the + button.
