shooting bag
« on: June 25, 2018, 08:14:15 AM »
Just finished this bag this afternoon.   The body is goat skin and the flap has a veg tamed backing and so is the trim around the opening.   it about 7in x 9in with an inside pocket sewn on the back panel.  Adjustable strap with a brass buckle.    Thanks for looking.
Chris

That is a sweet piece of work, with a lot going on and a lot to like.  The finishes look really warm, inviting use.  Congratulations on a nice bag.  You should keep that one and use it.  God Bless,  Marc

Thank you all for the kind words.  I think that I might use it a few times to see how it feels.   There are a few things I want t do different if I make another one like it.

Ken Scott was out here in Washington and taught 2 day class that I took and had a bag similar to this one that he donated to the fund raising auction.   I really liked that bag so Ken and I chatted about it and this is what I came up with.

In Ken Scott's video, he attaches the cloth prior to assembly and dyeing the leather.

How do you keep the cloth from turning black or very dark brown from the leather dye?

I just try to carefully apply the die when working in that area.   As the photos show, some stain does get on the cloth backing.   It just gives it some aged, used look.
