Today there is a really fine folk art powder horn by Gary Birch.  On the horn is a head and shoulder portrait in a circle.  Can anyone make out what the lettering is around the portrait?  The date looks like 18??.

The horn is an original that Gary restored.  If you look closely you can see where he added in pieces of horn and scrimshawed them to match the original design.

Art,

I would still be interested in knowing what is scrimshawed in the circle surrounding the head and shoulders portrait on the horn.

Part of the scrimed lettering appears to be MR ????N  B  OLSEN  189   I don't think that the numbers are necessarily a date.
