Making The Walking Stick

 First Two show the stick after it was tapered on a jointer. The top was left Octagonal to make it easer to hold. The numbers are so I know where I am working, the line is at the cutoff length. At the bottom of the second you can see where a Hole saw was used to make the step for the tip, a Pic farther down shows it trimmed up. The Brass tip is threaded 5/16-24 as is the hole and the tip was screwed in. The psrt that goes into the handle was done the same way but is pinned instead of a bolt.







 The next Two show the holes that were drilled in the antler and the screws that were put in to anchor the Pewter.







 This one shows how the dams were made that the Pewter was poured into.





 After the pour.





 Next Two show all Three poured and roughed out.







 This is the piece the tip was turned from.





 The shaft trimmed up some, at the bottom you can see the area where the tip will go.

Good gracious that is a complicated project.  I am not brave enough to try something like that.  I look forward to seeing the finished stick at CLA.   :-)

Neat-o!  Tim, that's a heckuva project for sure...I especially like that red-neck lathe to turn that shaft round...ingenious!

Very nice....but I just grab my walking stick off a beaver dam....all the bark is already chewed off,with some nice markings...and it hardwood too....and Free !

Beavers do make some nice walking sticks.  I must admit I once blew up their woodworking shop, though.
