Neat oil cans

I picked these up in a box lot. They are tin, I think. They do not react to a magnet.

Do you think they are for sewing machines or whatever? I do not know if any gun oilers were made with the spout. The ones I have seen have a dipper.

dont take this as gosspel but i believe these were military issue for the M1 carbine in WWII

       I have a couple of those. Somebody told me that they were old singer sewing machine oiler "bottles".  They work good though and don't leak.

Have to agree with Lord Calvin, they look like sewing machine oilers, still very nice little cans.  david50, the oiler for the M1 carbine was a small round tube, about 1/2 inch in diameter and maybe 2 inches long, with a top that screwed off, the top had a dipper attached.  It was attached to the butt end of the sling to keep the sling in the stock.

My grandmother had two of these in her Singer sewing machine drawers.  I don't know if they came with it but she used them to oil her machine which dated from the forties.

  These used to be sold in musical instrument stores, and Dixie Gun Works offered them for a long time. I believe they are nickel silver. I had a couple of them, but long gone now.

  Very possible, and probably so. brass would be cheaper for production. It has been too long, and I really don't remember.
