Replacement Tumbler

Hello all,
Anybody on here ever have to replace the tumbler on a Chambers Colonial VA (or other Chambers) lock? In a feat of absentmindedness, I managed to break mine in half at the square threaded portion that passes through the plate and holds the cock in place. The website says they sell replacements, but that all replacement parts except springs are as cast and not drop in ready. I was just wondering what prep work needs to be done to a replacement to get it ready to install? I’m no machinist and would rather send the lock to them for installation if it is anything complicated.

Just send it all back.
If you don't have a lathe and know how to use it you're out of luck.

I also found out trying to pry the hammer off the tumbler doesn't work.

Actually, what I did was worse. I was installing a rear lock bolt which had not yet been cut to length, forgetting that it comes out the front of the plate behind the hammer when it is in the down position. The pressure from the uncut bolt pressing against the back of the hammer broke the square portion of the tumbler right at the plate. Stupid inattentive mistake on my part. Given that the plate and internals have already been inlet, the only option is to have a replacement tumbler installed. Looks like that’s not going to happen until at least the new year as Chambers is closed for the holidays until 1/2/20. It is a Chambers Colonial VA lock, although I got it from another vendor as part of a precarve kit. Hopefully, Chambers will still be willing to install a new one for me for a fee if I send it to them.

The cock on my late Ketland refused to come off the tumbler and I didn't have the proper size drift. Knowing the consequences  of using the wrong tool, I took it over to Jim's shop. Barbie took care of it for me in minutes and then gave me a nice tour of their facilities including a room full of rifles from a collector for whom Jim is handling their sale. Droooool.

I commend you for your honesty in admitting your mistake.  We get broken parts back from time to time and I can tell from experience exactly the mistake the customer made.  But, we just replace them free of charge anyway to promote good customer relations.
Anytime you need replacement parts just give Barbie or me a call.  We usually have finished parts ready to ship out.  If we don't have them in stock I can quickly them for you.
