His first gun. Don't we all wish we started at this level? ;D

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I'm jealous. JC got his done before I did. Of course I didn't have all that pressure of getting done for Dixons. 3000 miles is a long trip. JC great job on your first gun.

Great wood, love the lock--but what's the barrel? No mention.

Chambers is offerering more locks now with bronze lock plates. I like them, but don't know how it fits historically. My .25 has a small Siler with a bronze plate, I like the look.

While I dither over attempting building a gun, others dive in. THIS one's intimidating!  :-\

Thanks guys. I'm almost embarrassed to respond as I am such an amateur compared to most of you and this thing could have been so much better at the hands of another. I am pretty satisfied for my ability level.

Kermit, It's a Colerain 44" 20 bore and although I am mainly a shot type of guy, this gun will also be used with a ball for the ML bear season if I can get up with one. Had one sitting on his haunches in my backyard the other day but we only have 4 days of season and the chances of seeing one then is slim.

It is good to see such a nice effort.  The carving looks really nice.  Make me want to get my fowler underway.

Congrats on the Dixon awards.......................Lynn

Captain:

Keep up the good work, I not even a new builder yet, but have to say it is inspiring to see such work!
