Please help Identify Long rifle, any value?

I have done a little homework and need help identifying. Looks like golden age rifle, has what I believe is an Eibar(Spain) mark?

Characteristics I believe to have found:
Barrel 40 inches plus tang
56 inches overall
Straight rifled octagon barrel
Iron/ brass sights
Percussion cap
Brass furniture
13/16 barrel
Double set trigger
.40-.45 caliber I believe
 Not sure if ram rod is original
1 screw has been replaced on percussion  cap

Any help is appreciated, trying to authenticate and find a story if there is one.

If American, why would it have Spanish Mark?

It looks like some of the guns Dixie Gun Works imported in the 1950’s. I hope this helps.

Turner Kirkland's first imported muzzleloaders were made in Belgium. I don't know if he ever brought them in from Spain.

Spanish made contemporary. 60’s or 70’s. Lock is probably marked ‘Spain’ on the inside of plate as well. Value is hard to say. Not much.

Should I unscrew a plate to look behind? Is so which one? I am adding additional pictures of barrel, ram rod, and 1st / second pin on barrel. If any others are needed I d be glad to get. Thank you for your input.

unscrew the two on the brass plate opposite the lock and slowly wriggle the lock out by holding the hammer. Look on the inside of the lock plate for markings. The brass plate can stay on. Pull the hammer back to half cock before removing the lock or it’ll hang up.

No markings from what I noticed. Since it has the Eibar stamp with that date, does it mean it is at least that old?

It appears to have marks #21 and #33 so it’s not older than 1931 (the #33 Mark was used from 1931 onward). I’m pretty sure these weren’t built that early but others here can verify that.

I was re reading about marks above. Is this a shotgun? Barrel states 700 Kp/ cm 2 J*2. Does that rating meet the 8534 as stated on proof sheet?

Not a shotgun as the grooves inside the barrel mean it’s a ‘rifle’. A shotgun would be smooth inside. Markings mean it was Proofed at 9954 psi I think.

 It’s a CVA Pennsylvania rifle, made in the late seventies or early eighties. They were a pretty good gun, for a production gun. They weren’t particularly authentic, but they shot well. This one looks like it may be used, and abused, beyond repair.

As usual, Hungry Horse hit it correctly. The 1983 GUN DIGEST  says, "Also introduced by CVA this year and so new it is not even cataloged, is their 50 caliber Pennsylvania Long Rifle ....".  A poor  quality image of the listing in 1984 is attached. Typically the left side of the barrel is marked with a serial number, "Spain", "Penn", and "Connecticut Valley Arms Inc. Black powder only 50 Caliber.. Many years ago I traded  off my percussion one for a CVA Frontier for its shorter length and better hunting sights. However both make OK deer guns at 100 yards or so

Boy they used that butt stock profile for a long time. Thats why i thought it was an early Dixie import.  That certainly does appear to be a spanish Maslin lock. 

That bore might clean up a bit with steel wool and oil on a tight jag. If not pitted, it may still shoot.

 That bore is way beyond a quick cleanup with steel wool and oil IMO. I would start with a dose of Evaporust, and see if it looks worth the effort. The barrels weren’t bad for a production gun, but the locks were an endless repair project. They make a replacement lock, but its cost is hard to justify if the rest of the gun is marginal.

A other thing to check before you do much of anything more, is check to see if there is a load in the barrel!
