I picked up a hitchhiker yesterday
« on: June 12, 2020, 04:17:29 AM »
So, I was on my way to eastern Iowa to visit with a kindred soul, just minding my own business, not bothering anyone and all the sudden this hitchhiker appears. Feeling sorry for the poor guy (particularly in today’s troubled times) I gave him a ride! The more time that we spent together the better I liked him so I just brought him on home. Couldn’t quite understand his first name (Jim, Joe, John, Jerry) but his last name is Brennan! He seems to be adjusting well to his new home here on Stoner Creek!
I’d like y’all to meet him!!

Oh, I did find out that he is 40 years old. 1980 written inside the patchbox. He’s a 58 cal.

Most hitchhikers I see look like a CVA that spent 50 years Sub Sahara. Very cool. Love the set trigger inlay on the guard.

Wayne that rifle is defective.  He couldn't even keep his first initial on the top flat.    ;D ;D

Congratulations on the winning bid! I thought about it and had no idea it would sell at that price. Good one!

That's a 40 year old hitchhiker too. Built in 1980. There wasn't much better than that in 1980. Not much better than that now!

I think the pictures RIA had didn't do that rifle justice at all! If they had shown the ones Wayne posted here it would have sold much much higher. I've found that anything I really have interest in I ask for additional pictures and they've always obliged.

Range report;
10 shots, 75 grains Swiss 1 1/2f, .575 ball .005 ticking. That snow bird was all me. I’m getting used to this deep muzzle cone. Never shot one before but I think that I’m gonna like it. The gun could pass as a smooth bore without close inspection. All shots offhand at 25.
Back to the range tomorrow! She’s a keeper.

Good group Wayne. .005 ticking is pretty thin?

That's good shooting! How deep do you think that cone is?

Thanks Mike the reason I ask is I altered a muzzle once 25 years ago and it absolutely destroyed the accuracy. Doesn't look like the cone hurt this rifle at all.

You can short start with your thumb. I’m going to cast up some more balls this morning and back to the range. This won’t be a full time target rifle but it’s going to be a great woods walk and deer bashing gun.

Built in 1980? That may be built here in Lansing, Mi. before "J" moved to Alaska!
