Rev War era engraved horn
« on: January 26, 2021, 09:20:01 PM »
I bought this horn in the white and then extensively reworked it before I carved and colored on it.
Thanks for looking,
TC

Thanks a million to everyone for all the kind words. I sincerely appreciate them. To answer Frank’s question about how long it took me to do I have to say I really don’t know. I spent days obsessing the spout and applied tip. Yes, the tip is applied because I didn’t like the way it was initially done in the white. I had to reshape the whole spout end and add a tip to get the balance I wanted.  Then fussing about the coloring and working out the drawings too a long time. The actual carving was a breeze compared to all that. I guess all told it took maybe a few weeks of free time working a few hours at a time.
Thanks again guys,
TC

WOW!
Tim ,that is a wonderful horn. Your a true artist. Did you use any design from an original or is this all  out of Albert's mind?

Thanks again all. I sincerely appreciate it.
jdm, I used stylized elements from old horns, like the soldiers and British crest but did them my own way, especially the crest. However, the soldiers are so basic they look similar to many other old horns. I believe the tendril stuff with the faces is mine, though I am probably influenced by Jacob Gay's work even if I don't know it.
